Greenhill mourns Faustino “Tino” Torres, a member of Greenhill’s Facilities and Operation Services team since 1979, who passed away on Monday, July 22 after an extended illness.

In his 45 years at Greenhill, Tino poured his heart into the school that he loved. Known for his strong work ethic and his joy in working outdoors, Tino specialized in groundskeeping. His colleagues often referred to him as “the grass-whisperer" because of his talents cultivating the athletics fields on campus. Student-athletes, coaches, families, and even opposing teams marveled at Tino’s artistry and the exquisite care given to all the fields. Families especially appreciated Tino’s talent on Brinkmann Field during the many athletic and community events held in that space.

For the past two years, Tino held the honor of being the longest-tenured employee working at the school. In that role, he had the opportunity to help light the anniversary candle during the annual Founders’ Day assembly. Tino shared that one of his proudest moments in his Greenhill tenure was standing on that stage and representing the many employees who have served the School during its 74-year history.

Tino will be remembered for his humble servant leadership, his creative problem-solving, his consummate integrity, and his devotion to Greenhill. The Greenhill flag will fly at half-mast for the rest of the week in recognition of Tino’s extraordinary contributions to the School.

Services to honor Tino will be held on Sunday, July 28, and Monday, July 29. Details are listed below.

  • Visitation: Sunday, July 28, 4:00 – 8:00 pm Hughes Funeral Homes Oak Cliff Chapel 400 E Jefferson Boulevard Dallas, TX 75203
  • Church Service: Monday, July 29, 12:00 pm Mary Immaculate Catholic Church 2800 Valwood Parkway Dallas, TX 75234

We offer our deepest sympathy to Tino’s family, including his beloved companion Rosaura and sons Julian, Faustino, Jr., Cesar, and Alex, and to all those in the Greenhill community who knew and loved Tino.
