In Greenhill's performing arts program, students act, dance, sing, build, design, and direct as they collaborate to create performance pieces for each other and the Greenhill community. Students build confidence, learn self-expression, and gain an appreciation for the skills required to perform in front of peers.
Students engage in storytelling, improvisation, and creative play. They explore movement through basic dance steps and routines, participate in school-wide events, and learn the basics of stage presence and public speaking.
Skills Developed: Self-expression, self-confidence, stage presence and awareness.
Middle School (5th – 8th Grade)
Fifth- and sixth-grade students engage in rotations of choir, drama, and public speaking. In seventh and eighth grades, students may select from various performing arts electives, including Intro to Improv, One Act Play, and Technical Theater. There is also an opportunity for students to be involved in the annual Middle School musical for sixth through eighth grade.
Skills Developed: Acting techniques, script reading, character development.
Upper School (9th – 12th Grade)
Students start to specialize in Upper School, with electives like Advanced Acting, Technical Theater, and Dance Company. As well as participating in the annual musical and dram productions. Advanced courses also allow students to create portfolios that may be used for college applications or professional portfolios.
Skills Developed: Advanced techniques, arts leadership through directing or choreography, and portfolio development.
In the Middle School Musical, students take the lead on stage and behind the scenes. Past performances have included Elf, Jr., and Seussical, Jr., and Matilda, Jr.
Greenhill Singers is the Upper School choir where students perform for peers, at events like the Holiday concert, and commencement ceremonies.
Greenhill Dance Company offers concert-style dance including ballet, modern, and jazz dance for Upper School students.
In Lower School Choir, fourth-grade students meet after school to share their love of singing and to prepare for parent performances.
The Marshall Family Performing Arts Center houses multiple performances spaces, including Rose Hall (600 seat auditorium), Nasher-Haemisseger Studio Theater (150-seat flexible black box), and a dance choral hall with a floor designed for dancers.
Congratulations to the 32 students who qualified for the Texas Forensic Association State Tournament and the eight students who have qualified for at least one National Championship.
Congratulations to Austin Cohen ’25 for being named a Winner with Distinction in the national YoungArts Competition and having one of his pieces selected for the YoungArts Anthology.
