Faculty Artist Featured in Miniature Exhibition

Congratulations to Greenhill faculty artist Frank Lopez for having his work featured in the Landau Gallery.

The Landau Gallery, a dollhouse-sized exhibition space built at a 1:12 scale, will feature a new body of work by Greenhill faculty artist Frank Lopez. Created specifically for the space, the handmade photo-based artworks measure just three inches tall and are produced on silver gelatin paper using the Chromo Process – a rare and labor-intensive method involving chemical development, toning, and physical manipulation with brushes, light, and time.

Each tiny framed print is designed to reflect themes of abstraction and impermanence, drawing influence from Lopez’s Buddhist faith. The result is a series of black-and-white images with reflective, mirror-like surfaces that resist digital reproduction and invite in-person viewing.

The exhibition, curated by Landau Gallery founder Pamela Connolly, will be on view during a special two-day preview at the STEM + Innovation Center at Greenhill School on April 10 and 11.

While the Landau Gallery installation offers an intimate, scaled-down experience, a companion exhibition of full-size works will open at Photographique Bishop Arts in Dallas. Emanations will debut on April 12 with an opening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the artist and curator in attendance.

A follow-up event, including an Artist Talk and print giveaway, is scheduled for May 10 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 409 W. 8th St. and offers free parking behind the building.

Lopez, who teaches Upper School photography and received the 2020 Callanan Award for Excellence in Photographic Teaching, was recently featured in a Lenscratch article highlighting his creative practice and contributions to photography education.
