MS Musical 2024

Annie Jr.

I am excited this year to bring the world of Annie JR. to the Greenhill stage! As kids, my sister and I watched our VHS copy of the movie version of Annie (1982) over and over again – it was probably one of the few movies we both loved when trying to decide what to watch. As a result, it’s one of the few musicals I know beat for beat and line for line!

As a child, it was the catchy songs and dynamic choreography, the comic book villains of Miss Hanagan, Rooster, and Lily come to life with big performances by Carol Burnett, Tim Curry, and Burnadette Peters, and the adventurous plot of a tough but kind orphan trying to find her parents.

Returning to the show as an adult, I’m even more struck by the beauty of songs like Maybe, the snappy dialogue, and the theme of hopefulness against all odds. It’s something to remember on even the darkest of days, as Annie sings, “The sun will come out tomorrow / Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be sun.”

We’re so excited to bring this musical to life on stage for you, and I’m so proud of the work our students have done these last months! We are excited to share this show with you, our friends and family, and we hope you’ll enjoy the songs and story of Annie, JR.!
