Olympic Weightlifter Cheryl Haworth Visits Greenhill

Former Olympic Weightlifter Cheryl Haworth visited Greenhill on Friday, October 17 to speak to students about athleticism, confidence, and specifically, body image.

She was the U. S. bronze medal winner in 2000 and competed in 2004 and 2008. On Friday, she met with the Sports and Society class, spoke to the entire Upper School at assembly, and met with the True Colors club at lunch.

Haworth has also made a documentary, entitled Strong that she specially screened for Upper Schoolers on Thursday evening.

Strong is about Ms. Haworth's struggles with body image. She began weightlifting at the age of 12 when she was too thin to be considered healthy. Now, at 300 pounds, her documentary explores the contradictions of a celebrated body in sports and a shunned body in society throughout her participation in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics.
